Why religion?

All my life I wondered why so many people were so focused on religion. Here I was growing up a daughter of a minister who was Baptist. After many years of attending my father's church and hearing his sermon's, the rules of baptist church were out of control...at least I thought. Why is it so important to wear dresses, to attend church all day, and for women to have something on their head before praying. I remember thinking...is this what God wants? This cannot be the case! From Baptist, to Catholic, Penecostal, Judaism, Mormon, Islam, Hinduism, and so many more, there are so many rules. Where did all of this come from? If we all serve God, when he is ONE, then why so many different religions...
